Richard Simmons’s Brother Honors His Life and Legacy in Emotional Tribute
At a heartfelt celebration of life held on October 5 at St. Louis Cathedral in New Orleans, Lenny Simmons, the brother of the late fitness icon Richard Simmons, shared a poignant tribute reflecting on Richard’s life, values, and the profound impact he had on those around him.
Titled “God’s Plan For Richard Simmons: A Tribute,” Lenny emphasized Richard’s unwavering faith and his relentless pursuit of helping others. He highlighted how Richard was always searching for ways to make a positive difference in the world, showcasing the compassionate spirit that defined his life.
Richard Simmons passed away on July 13, just a day after celebrating his 76th birthday. A small funeral service took place on July 19, with Richard laid to rest at Pierce Brothers Westwood Village Memorial Park and Mortuary in Los Angeles.
In an interview with PEOPLE just days before his death, Richard reflected on his legacy, stating, “I don’t hear it at all. I don’t hear the word legend. I don’t hear the word icon. I never lived a celebrity life. I never thought of myself as a celebrity.”
