Texas quarterback Arch Manning will have another offensive weapon at his disposal next season after four-star athlete Michael Terry III announced his commitment to the Longhorns.

On Wednesday, Terry revealed his decision to play for Texas in front of a packed audience at Alamo Heights High School. On3’s top-ranked athlete from the 2025 recruiting class chose the Longhorns over Nebraska and Oregon, describing the opportunity to suit up for head coach Steve Sarkisian’s squad as “once in a lifetime.”

“I decided a couple of days ago, me and my family were debating Nebraska and Texas,” Terry told KSAT. “We went through the pros and the cons – and UT is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

“I just feel blessed right now, to be in the position I’m in, to be able to go to a top school. It’s a good feeling.”

Over the summer, Terry took recruiting trips to Oregon, Texas, Texas A&M, and Nebraska before returning to the Longhorns and Cornhuskers for a second visit. The San Antonio native was ultimately swayed by Sarkisian’s promise to use him in an expansive offensive role – similar to the way he was utilized at Alamo Heights.

“Through the process with every recruiter, especially UT, they changed how they see [Michael],” Alamo Heights head coach Ron Rittimann said. “It went from him maybe just being a receiver to a running back to now some wildcat quarterback stuff. They’re excited about his diversity.”

Entering his senior year, Terry already boasted over 3,000 all-purpose yards – 1,800 on the ground and 1,300 through the air – during his high school career. At Alamo Heights, he received snaps as a running back, slot wide receiver, quarterback and defensive back en route to being named Texas’ District 13-5A MVP last season.

Terry is just one of the many bright stars that have committed to Texas, which actively boasts the nation’s No. 1 class for the first time in the modern football recruiting era. As of writing, the Longhorns have 25 2025 recruits, including five 5-stars, 14 4-stars, and six 3-stars.

Among the top recruits are defensive lineman Justus Terry (On3’s No. 9 ranked prospect), safety Jonah Williams (No. 11), defensive lineman Lance Jackson (No. 25), and wide receiver Kaliq Lockett (No. 30).

The influx of talent is a welcome addition for Manning, who is all but guaranteed to receive the starting reins to the Longhorns’ offense next season – if not sooner. When asked if the 19-year-old could receive playing time during Texas’ SEC Championship game versus Georgia, Sarkisian said with a chuckle: “We might.

“We threw Arch in here in a couple of opportunities in the high-red [zone] to get into some quarterback run stuff, and we’ve gotten into 21 personnel and utilized [Jaydon] Blue and Tre [Wisner] together.

“And so we’re constantly trying to evolve that stuff,” he continued. “We did some tackle-over things in this game that we hadn’t shown much throughout the year, so you’re always trying to find little tweaks and things to find some advantages along the way.”
