Steve Sarkisian is speaking confidently ahead of Arch Manning taking over the starting position over Quinn Ewers in 2025 – a move some fans had hoped to see last season.
Manning has made just two starts in two years while having to sit behind Ewers, performing at a high level with 12 touchdowns to just two interceptions when stepping in. In his cameo appearances, he showed fans his athleticism while possessing the ability to launch the ball downfield.
This has led to Texas fans wanting to see Ewers, Mirror U.S. Sports’ 48th ranked player, benched in favor of Manning, with Sarkisian riding out the season with the former before he moved on to the NFL Draft.

While an exciting prospect, Manning has little experience of playing in college football and is still a somewhat unknown quantity despite potentially being in his final season in 2025.
But Sarkisian is confident that Manning will be able to lead the offense to a successful season ahead. He said: “I’m excited for Arch. I feel like his progression has been perfect.
“You know, a chance for a couple years to be with Quinn and to learn who we are systematically. But, B, just to watch how Quinn has handled things. And, you know, Quinn’s journey was not the smoothest, right?
“There was injuries, and how he responded to those. And, you know, at Texas, if you don’t go 30-for-30 with five touchdowns, everyone’s going to point to the one or two incompletions and all that stuff. But how Quinn handled it I think was good for Arch.

“But then in the end, I think, you know, for Arch, the beauty for us is he got two starts for us this past year, and he started our SEC opener against Mississippi State.
“So, I think that exposure was good for him, but now we’re watching him in winter workouts and the off-season stuff, really becoming the leader of the team like the quarterback has to be. He’s got such a great personality that I think his teammates really respond to him.

“The coaches have started to respond to him, and so I think things are off to a really good start for him, and we’ve got a pretty good football team around him, which I think is important, too. Arch is definitely a really big, athletic guy, and that’s a different dynamic than we’ve had over the past couple years.”
While hopes are high surrounding Manning’s first year as the starter, many will be worried about the lack of talent the school has lost this offseason.
The Longhorns will be without their four of their five starting offensive lineman, with Kelvin Banks Jr, Cameron Williams and Jake Majors likely to be drafted within the first two days of the draft. Elsewhere, Texas’ number one receiver Matthew Golden looks set to be a first-round pick, along with Isaiah Bond surprisingly declaring for the draft.
