Raiders make first significant free agent signing with $11 million deal for embattled OL image

The Las Vegas Raiders are expected to be very busy in free agency this offseason, with the team having a ton of cap space to work with and several needs to address.

On Wednesday, the Raiders made their first significant signing of the 2025 offseason, with the team agreeing to terms with former Cincinnati Bengals guard, Alex Cappa, according to his agency.

Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the contract is for two years and $11.2 million and includes $5.5 million guaranteed.

Not a bad deal for a player who was cut loose by Cincinnati after a down year in 2024. As the Bengals’ starting guard last season, Cappa surrendered eight sacks and 51 pressures in 774 pass-blocking snaps, per Pro Football Focus. He also registered lackluster run-blocking and pass protection grades of 39.7 and 54.9, respectively.

Based on the contract, Cappa is going to get an opportunity to at least compete for a starting job, which only makes the Raiders’ interior offensive line situation more interesting.

The team has Dylan Parham and Jordan Meredith under contract, and both started games at guard in 2024.

Furthermore, 2024 second-round pick Jackson Powers-Johnson also started at guard last season before moving over to center and then back to guard. He temporarily replaced Andre James, who is also under contract up the middle.

Perhaps the Raiders will trade James and move JPJ over to center, but that has not been reported at all. If they keep James, the Raiders will be flush with interior offensive line options, which is a good problem to have.
