NFC West Standings: Playoff race heats up as Seahawks, Rams, 49ers pick up huge Week 14 wins image

The afternoon slate for Week 14 focused on the NFC West. All four teams were in action, as the Seahawks took on the Cardinals, the Rams hosted the Bills, and the 49ers were home against the Bears.

The NFC West is the most competitive division in football. Not only is each team still eligible for a playoff spot, but all four also have a shot at the division title and an automatic top-four seed in the NFC playoffs.

Seattle got out to an early lead vs. the Cardinals, and Arizona couldn’t slow down the tandem of Zach Charbonnet or Jaxon Smith-Njigba, helping extend the Seahawks’ division lead heading into Week 15.

The 49ers had to go with third-string running back Isaac Guerendo in the backfield, and even though Chicago had a much better second half, it wasn’t nearly enough in a 38-14 Niners win.

The Rams were expected to lose to a red-hot Bills team, but when the dust settled, Los Angeles’ high-powered offense fueled it to an upset 44-42 win.

Through Week 14 games.

Rank Team Record
1. Seahawks 8-5
2. Rams 7-6
3. Cardinals 6-7
4. 49ers 6-7

Seattle came into the day on top of the division, and with a win, it will remain in first place. The Seahawks only have one divisional game left and sit with a 3-2 division record. This could become a factor later if tiebreakers are needed.

Los Angeles is in second place, only one game back of Seattle. The Rams will have a short week and play an important divisional game against San Francisco on Thursday. L.A. is 2-1 against the division, winning over the 49ers in Week 3. They control their own destiny as they head toward a Week 18 showdown vs. Seattle.

Arizona was on top of the division just a few weeks ago but has fallen to third place. The Cardinals have lost three games in a row but will look to build momentum against the Patriots and Panthers over the next two weeks before ending the season with two divisional games. Arizona has gone 2-2 this season against the NFC West.

San Francisco’s injuries are mounting, as they remain in last place in the division. The 49ers have the same record as the Cardinals, but they have lost the lone head-to-head matchup. Unfortunately for any tiebreakers, San Francisco is 1-3 in the NFC West with only two games left against the division.
