Lewis Hamilton has established himself as a global superstar thanks to his F1 performances and his exciting life away from the track.
His record-breaking career, driven by an unyielding ambition, has made him not just a legend of motorsport but also a titan of wealth and celebrity status. Beyond his staggering net worth, Hamilton has had a high-profile love life and a car collection that would make any auto enthusiast green with envy, plus there’s still plenty of speculation about what he’ll do after his racing career comes to an end.
As he approaches his 40s, will the Brit decided to slow down anytime soon, or does a man who has achieved so much in the sport intend to keep racing for as long as he can? Ahead of Hamilton’s final race in Mercedes colors in Abu Dhabi this weekend, we take a look at the man away from the racetrack.
What is Lewis Hamilton’s net worth?
The Sunday Times Rich List reports that Hamilton’s net worth is a jaw-dropping $382million. Unsurprisingly, the majority of his wealth comes from his unparalleled racing career.
In 2024, he reportedly earned a base salary of $63m per year at Mercedes, and his income is expected to soar at Ferrari next year. Back in February, Hamilton penned a multi-year contract with the Italian manufacturers, rumored to be worth $443m.
Off the track, Hamilton is a force to be reckoned with in the marketing world, partnering with global brands such as Tommy Hilfiger, Puma, IWC Schaffhausen and Monster Energy Drinks. He’s also dabbled in fashion, music, and even environmental activism. His investments in technology, real estate, and a plant-based burger chain further diversify his portfolio, cementing his status as a versatile businessman.
Who has Lewis Hamilton dated?
Hamilton’s love life is as high-profile as his F1 career. His most notable relationship was with pop star Nicole Scherzinger, the former lead singer of the Pussycat Dolls. They spent seven years together before they finally called it quits in 2015.
After their split, Hamilton was rumored to be dating several high-profile women, including supermodels Barbara Palvin and Winnie Harlow, as well as Rihanna, Kendall Jenner and Rita Ora, although these relationships were never officially confirmed. Other speculated romances include social media influencer Sofia Richie, and models Jasmine Sanders and Juliana Nalu – who previously dated rapper Kanye West. Hamilton has mostly kept his personal life private, which only adds to his mystique as one of F1’s most charismatic figures.
What cars does Lewis Hamilton own?
As a professional driver, it’s no surprise that Lewis Hamilton has an impressive collection of cars parked in his various garages. While his F1 cars are built for speed, his private collection is all about luxury and performance. Among the gems in his collection are a $2.6m Mercedes-AMG Project One, a hypercar with Formula 1 technology, and the McLaren P1, a rare plug-in hybrid supercar.
He also owns a custom Pagani Zonda 760 LH, a $2m vehicle made specifically for him. However, its manual transmission and loud design have led Hamilton to consider it more of a collectible than a practical drive. His collection also includes classics like a 1966 Shelby Cobra 427 and a 1967 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, as well as luxurious rides like a Ferrari LaFerrari (which will surely please his future employers) and a Maybach 6.
In line with his eco-conscious views, Hamilton also owns several sustainability-focused cars, including a Mercedes EQS and a modified electric Shelby Cobra.
What does Lewis Hamilton’s property portfolio look like?
Being one of the wealthiest sports stars comes with an extensive array of properties. Primarily, Hamilton resides in his stunning $15m mansion in Monaco – conveniently located near F1 rivals Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc. But he also owns luxury properties in the UK, the US, and Switzerland.
His residence in Kensington, west London, is valued at a staggering $23m and was previously owned by Burberry designer Christopher Bailey. In Switzerland, he boasts a breath-taking home nestled in the Alpine foothills, while his American real estate portfolio exceeds $76m.
His acquisitions include a luxurious $39m penthouse in New York City, and a picturesque ranch in Colorado, flanked by mountains on one side and lakes on the other. In recent years, he’s sold two high-end properties for substantial amounts: a Tribeca, New York property for $49.4m, and another in Beverly Hills for $49m.
When will Lewis Hamilton retire?
At 39, Hamilton still has much to contribute to racing, but retirement can’t be too far from the Brut’s mind. He’s been competing in F1 since 2007, achieving a record-breaking 104 pole positions and 103 Grand Prix wins, and an equal number of world titles with McLaren and Mercedes.
His contract with Ferrari will extend into his 40s, and although retirement isn’t imminent, Hamilton is evidently considering his next career move. In a conversation with GQ Magazine, the Brit highlighted film and fashion as his main interests outside of racing, having recently established his own production company, Dawn Apollo Films, and collaborated on collections with renowned designer Tommy Hilfiger.
“I’m very ambitious,” he said, adding: “But I understand that you can’t do actually, I take that back because I don’t believe in the word can’t. To be a master at something, there’s the 10,000 hours it takes. Obviously, I’ve done that in racing. There’s not enough time to master all of these different things.”
He continued: “I’ve spoken to so many amazing athletes, from Boris Becker to Serena Williams, even Michael Jordan. Talking to people that I’ve met along the way, who are retired or some that are still in competition and the fear of what’s next, the lack of preparation for what’s next.
“A lot of them said: ‘I stopped too early.’ Or: ‘Stayed too long’. ‘When it ended, I didn’t have anything planned’. ‘My whole world came crashing down because my whole life has been about that sport’.”
