A banged-up Quinn Ewers made it through Texas’ game with Georgia on Saturday unscathed thanks in part to a trusty leg brace.
The Longhorns jumped to a 6-3 lead in a defensive tussle marred by turnovers, but they eventually lost to Georgia in overtime. In a bizarre segment, ESPN’s Laura Rutledge appeared on the Texas sideline holding a nearly lifesize replica of Ewers’s leg equipped with his signature brace. The quarterback entered the game battling some lower leg injuries.
“We’re back in Atlanta and just so anyone wants to know, this is not a real leg,” Rutledge said while holding up the simulated brace. “This is the TayCo athletic brace over Quinn Ewers’ injured ankle. This allows for players to return to the field quicker. This allows for explosiveness and can still run in a way they would if they were healthy.”
Many could hardly believe ESPN ran the segment, particularly taking note of Rutledge’s comment of “This is not a real leg”.
“Well thats a relief,” commented one fan in jest, while another joked: “Would have been pretty based if it was.”
“Its a real unreal leg,” a third fan noted before someone remarked: “I dont believe her.”
On the season, Texas quarterback Ewers has led his team to an 11-2 record while completing 67.3 percent for 2,307 yards. He saw his QB rating drop from 158.6 to 152.

Many have called for Texas coach Steve Sarkisian to replace Ewers with talented freshman Arch Manning. The nephew of Peyton and Eli Manning has flashed when playing in a limited role.
ESPN analyst Paul Finebaum expressed how he wouldn’t be surprised if Sarkisian opted for a switch. “I would do it very quickly because Ewers is banged up,” he admitted. “Remember a couple of months ago he came back from a [similar] situation and struggled against Georgia, they lost that game,” he continued.
“Arch came in… Arch Manning is one of the best players in the country that we just havent seen very much of, so I wouldnt wait. Its a critical game because if Texas loses this, they have to sit around and wait on the CFP and you never want to depend on a 13-person committee to decide your fate.”
