On the Talking Royal podcast, Charlene White observed that the Prince and Princess of Wales have been quite tactile on their recent outings, particularly during a visit to Wales, echoing the Sussexes’ affectionate manner at events like the Invictus Games.
Royal expert Lizzie Robinson, who accompanied the royal couple on their trip, noted this warmer approach may be part of a strategy shift for William and Kate. Commenting on their actions, Robinson remarked, “They posted these images on their social media of Kate and William going to the train station, and they were holding hands.”
She elaborated, “Recently we’ve had quite personal messages posted on social media. We had the Valentine’s Day post. We had a very touching post from Prince William for Kate’s birthday. And I think they’re sharing a little bit more of that intimate and personal side than perhaps we’ve seen in the past from them.”
White echoed these sentiments, suggesting the move towards a more open, “Americanized” presentation of the royal family seems to mirror the successful approach taken by Harry and Meghan, indicating it could be a wise path for the Prince and Princess of Wales as well.
White has been taking note of the way Harry and Meghan’s affection plays out in America, hinting it may be a hit with people in the US more than Brits. She commented, “Ever since [Harry and Meghan] got together, holding hands, being very tactile, being very soppy with each other, we’ve seen a lot of that and that’s well, for an American market, it may not always play out so well here, but it does well in the American market.”
White also speculated on whether William and Kate might be drawing inspiration from them, by noting, “So maybe they [William and Kate] are just following their footsteps, realizing actually that …as lovers of the royal family, we like to see that.”
Meanwhile, Robinson pointed out that after a rough 2024 with health scares for both King Charles and Princess Kate, the latter seems renewed with a different take on life. She revealed, “The princess has spoken about how she has a new sort of view of the world,” and underscored Kate’s recent public displays of affection, suggesting, “Perhaps she has decided that actually showing off that side is important to her.”
