Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid‘s absence from Friday’s NBA game against the Brooklyn Nets at Wells Fargo Center, is because of a knee swelling. The injury will also see him miss the visit of Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday.

According to Philly Sports, Embiid went through a consultation with the 76ers medical staff which determined he would miss both games due to swelling. The Philly Enquirer added the 76ers would provide an update next week.

It is reported he became questionable at shootarounds ahead of the game, and decided after warmups he would not play against the Nets. His latest absence comes with drama surrounding the team behind the scenes.

The news regarding Embiid comes amid the player wanting to find out who leaked information from a team meeting to the media. 76ers point guard Tyrese Maxey reportedly challenged Embiid about how he’s late “for everything” and that this has an impact on the locker room, and morale, ESPN reported Tuesday.

ESPN’s report said the confrontation followed a particularly disastrous 106-89 loss Monday to Miami Heat, to extend their season woes to a 2-11 start. ESPN reported that Maxey and Embiid’s conversation was not uncommon as they are close, and have held one another to account before. According to the source who confided in ESPN, addressing Embiid’s tardiness is “the elephant in the room.” Embiid accepted Maxey’s complaint.

What Embiid hasn’t accepted, though, is how and why it was leaked to the press in the first place.

“Whoever leaked that is a real piece of —-” Embiid told The AthleticEmbiid said he and Maxey “talked about a lot of things. I don’t want to get into detail. But that whole thing, that part of it, took probably 40 seconds. But it’s Joel Embiid, so things will always get blown out of proportion. It’s whatever, though. I’ll take it. I’m the reason for everything, so I guess I’ll take the blame for everything.”

He continued: “There was nothing malicious being said. I like when people are telling me when I’m not doing good and when I need to be better. That part of it [being late] probably happened once or twice when I wasn’t playing. So I need to be better. I need to be perfect. I need to be on point, which I’m going to do.”

Sports Illustrated then reported Friday that an angry Embiid will do all he can to try and find the locker room leak.
