Ken Jennings, aka one of the best Jeopardy! players of all time, believes that one champion possesses the talent and ability to break one of his most impressive records to date.
During the 50-year-old television personality’s legendary run on the gameshow, Ken secured the record for most consecutive wins with a staggering 74 games in a row. And now he has graduated from the buzzer and become the host himself, he’s convinced that one star player has the ability to beat this record.
During the latest episode of the Inside Jeopardy podcast, Ken sang the highest praises for former contestant Amy Schneider who recently competed in the Tournament of Champions. At the end of the podcast episode, one audience member asked: “Do you think that your 74-game win streak could ever be broken?”
To which Ken humbly replied: “I think it can be beaten. I was here when Amy Schneider made the last real run at it. The reason why I think it can be beaten [is] one, because I know firsthand it can be done. I was there.”
He continued: “And second of all, I think there is a plateau you hit where youre just cruising. Youve had a lot more practice on the buzzer and the set than your opponents have had. Its kind of an unfair home-court advantage for the returning champion. I think at some point somebody is just going to hit that streak and theyre going to glide. Im excited that I might be here when it happens.
During her impressive run on the gameshow, Amy secured the second-longest win streak in the program’s history following Ken at 40 consecutive games. This feat landed her in Jeopardy! history as the most successful woman and most successful transgender player ever to compete on the show.
In addition to this, the writer is also considered the fourth-highest ranking Jeopardy contestant when it comes to Highest Winnings in a regular season play. During her run on the trivia gameshow, Amy brought home a shopping total of $1,682,800. And while Amy is considered one of the all-time greats, she unfortunately will not be moving forward in the current Jeopardy! Invitational Tournament.
While Amy didn’t emerge victorious in her last round, even the tournament champion took a moment to recognize her brilliance and congratulate her gameplay. Luigi de Guzman won the last round of the ToC beating out Amy and his fellow players with a total score of $18,799. After his remarkable win, Luigi later took to a Reddit board where he described Amy as “without a doubt, one of the greatest ever to play the game.”
