The first snow game of Jameis Winston’s NFL career was a wild one as late drama saw his Cleveland Browns team surge to a 24-19 win over Pittsburgh Steelers at Huntington Bank Field in Ohio.
Winston and the Browns didn’t just have to fend off the Steelers, but battled inclement weather, too, as snow befell the game with green grass rapidly turning into a blanket of white. Regardless, Winston made his presence felt with a his two-yard touchdown dive in the third quarter before a big two-point conversation despite equipment malfunction.
The communication device in Winston’s helmet appeared to come unstuck during a sequence in which Pittsburgh’s defensive lineman Cameron Heyward clattered him in the endzone. The comms device could even be seen dangling from his helmet yet he completed a vital pass to David Njoku like it was no problem at all.

Thursday’s blizzard was so bad that markings on the field were no longer visible and so Amazon Prime Video intervened and displayed digital lines for the broadcast.
Though Winston’s touchdown gave Cleveland an 18-6 lead, it was not enough to thwart a Steelers comeback as Jaylen Warren sealed a three-yard. touchdown run, with Chris Boswell converting the extra point, before Calvin Austin III caught a 23-yard touchdown pass from Russell Wilson to give the Steelers a one-point 19-18 lead.
It wasn’t long before the Browns reclaimed the lead thanks to Nick Chubb’s two-yard touchdown run, confirming a 24-19 win for the Browns.

Victory was perhaps a foregone conclusion considering Winston’s epic, pre-game speech.
“The horse is preparing for battle, but victory comes from the Lord. So I’m dependent on the Lord,” he said on the NFL on Prime Video broadcast, adding: “Day by day, one play at a time, that’s the message.”
Regarding the pending snowstorm, Winston appeared unfazed, saying: “I am so happy and grateful that the Lord has blessed me to play in some snow, to be in true football weather, in Cleveland, Ohio, Huntington Bank Field. It’s a beautiful day.”
It is not the first time Winston has been regarding as one of football’s budding wordsmiths as, just last month, he channeled Eminem after helping the Browns seal an upset win over Baltimore Ravens. “[Eminem] said ‘you only get one shot, do not miss your chance to blow, this opportunity lasts once in a lifetime’,” Winston said, when asked about replacing Deshaun Watson, who needed surgery in October following his ankle injury. Watson is expected to miss the rest of the 2024 season.
