NFL fans roasted Dallas Cowboys franchise quarterback Dak Prescott on social media Monday night after the innovative Simpsons-themed alternate broadcast of the Cowboys’ matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals featured Homer Simpson throwing a touchdown pass. Fans were so impressed by the special effects that they picked Homer’s mechanics over their own QB on injured reserve.
The segment featured a special effects recreation of Cooper Rush’s first-quarter 11-yard touchdown pass to CeeDee Lamb. Instead of Rush being inserted into his temporary role with the team as a starter, Homer Simpson stepped into the quarterback role, donning his classic white collared shirt and blue jeans.
The play was perfectly recreated in the Springfield-style animation, complete with Homer moving in the pocket before delivering a ball with a zip to Lamb for the score. The Cowboys opened the game with a seven-point lead on the touchdown pass, but fans were more captivated by the Simpsons reimagining than the real-life action on the field.

It didn’t take long for X uses to explode with jokes and memes, many with fans hilariously claiming that Homer Simpsons quarterback mechanics were better than Prescott’s. Even the NFL’s official account tweeted, “Homer Simpson QB1?” after the pass. One fan wrote, “Homer Simpson looking better than Dak Prescott,” while another added, “Putting Homer Simpson in for Dak Prescott is smarter than any move that Mike McCarthy has made all year.”
The jokes continued with another fan adding, “Seems like Homer Simpson is a better QB for the Cowboys than Prescott ever was,” joking that the beloved animated character would have a 158.3 perfect passer rating in the NFL. Fans on the deeper side of football analytics observed the throw as if Simpson was trying out for the league and said, “Homer just threw that ball like we saw in college. Shows why he was drafted from Springfield U. Could be a turning point in his career.”
Prescott signed a four-year, $240 million extension earlier this season and is currently on injured reserve after dealing with a nagging hamstring injury. His absence has left Rush at the helm, leading Dallas to two wins and three losses as a starter.
The alternate broadcast format is part of the NFL’s ongoing experiment with reimagined ways to watch football, usually aimed at younger audiences. Paired with conventional coverage, the Simpsons graphics not only provided a new gridiron experience for fans of the 36 Emmy award-winning program but also inspired a slew of creative opportunities for content creators online.
Another Simpsons moment occurred before kickoff with beloved NFL analyst Mina Kimes, who provided commentary during the Simpsons broadcast as a Simpsons version of herself alongside Drew Carter and Dan Orlovsky. Kimes earned laughter online as she referred to the fictional city of Springfield as the armpit of America’s butt crack.
