Caleb Williams was told country music star Shaboozey will be on the field longer than the Chicago Bears offense ahead of his Thanksgiving halftime show.

At halftime on Thanksgiving Day, Williams struggled mightily. He threw for just 34 yards with a 38.5 percent completion rate as the Bears were shut out and entered halftime down 16-0 to the Detroit Lions in the NFC North showdown.

Shaboozey, whose hit song ‘Tipsy’ has been played for months across the nation, is set to play the halftime show for the clash between the Lions and Bears. CBS NFL reporter Jonathan Jones saw the funny side of the Bears’ dismal showing, taking to X to post: “Shaboozey is going to be on the field longer than the Bears offense.”

Ahead of the game, Bears offensive coordinator Thomas Brown outlined Williams’ exciting potential, despite the No. 1 overall pick’s difficult start to life in the NFL. Brown replaced Shane Waldron as Bears OC after the franchise slipped to a 4-5 record, with the Bears offense ranking 30th in the league in total offense and 24th in scoring at the time of his dismissal.

“That’s a rookie quarterback who in my opinion hasn’t even scratched the surface of how good he can be,” Brown told 670 The Score. “And it’s my job, my focus to continue to try to find ways to make him the best he can be.”

However, it seems Brown is failing to guide Williams and the Browns offense so far. The unit showed some improvement against the Green Bay Packers, with Williams completing 23 of 31 passes for 231 yards in the 20-19 defeat. The run game was unlocked, with D’Andre Swift going for 71 yards and a touchdown.

But things have faltered in Detroit. Swift has just four carries for 18 yards, and Williams has struggled to find chemistry with his talented receiving corps – which has been a story throughout his rookie season. In the first half, the Bears held the ball for just 7:06 of game time, two first downs, and 57 total yards. Shaboozey spent 6:26 on field the field, unofficially.

Things did improve for the Bears offense in the second half. Williams impressively found Keenan Allen on a clutch third down after the quarterback had scrambled to evade pressure. He then rushed for a first down but was taken down by Lions linebacker Jack Campbell hard after attempting to juke inside.

Then, Williams again danced around in the pocket before firing a 31-yard touchdown pass to Allen. Williams then threw a second touchdown pass to DJ Moore while the defense routinely kept the Lions offense in check. On the final drive of the game, the Bears drove into field goal range before Williams was sacked and, despite having a timeout in their pocket, Chicago head coach Matt Eberflus decided not to call it.

Williams changed the play up, and took a while to snap the ball, wasting precious seconds. He eventually started the play with four seconds remaining, lofting a hopeful game-winning touchdown pass to Rome Odunze that fell incomplete. As a result, the Bears fumbled a potentially game-tying field goal opportunity, and the Lions escaped 23-20 winners.

Williams and the 4-8 Bears face the San Francisco 49ers in their next game on Sunday, Dec. 8.
