U. S. Open champ Bryson DeChambeau was left red-faced during his collaboration with Donald Trump’s granddaughter as his trick shot went wrong. A staunch backer of the recently elected president, DeChambeau spared some time to join Trump’s golf-loving granddaughter Kai for a trick shot attempt.
The 17-year-old who has impressive aspirations on the green and has her sights set on representing the University of Miami in collegiate golf, joined forces with the fourth-ranked golfer in the world.
Kai, the daughter of Donald Trump Jr. and his former spouse Vanessa, took to social media to showcase a video with DeChambeau where they tried a nifty golf stunt. Standing behind the LIV Golf sensation at the driving range, she expertly flicked the golf ball towards him.
DeChambeau, not missing a beat and without glancing backward, aligned his swing immaculately to meet the oncoming ball. Unfortunately, the force seemed too much for the LIV Golf aces driver, which broke at the head and sailed off in the other direction.
As the club head spun out toward a sand trap, Kai erupted into giggles while DeChambeau observed its flight. The duo’s camaraderie was on full display, and they even enjoyed side-by-side chuckles while observing the SpaceX spacecraft ascend.
Later on, DeChambeau floated a whimsical idea that he believed might advance her game on the course. “I’ll design a rocketship golf club with boosters on the back so you increase your club head speed,” he proposed earnestly, adding, “Just for you.”
“Just for me, yeah? I’m gonna need it. Wow that hurt,” Kai retorted, humorously taking umbrage at DeChambeau’s hint that her club head speed could use a boost.
Kai has expressed gratitude to her grandfather for aiding her in reaching her college aspirations when she declared her commitment to the University of Miami. “I would like to thank my Grandpa for giving me access to great courses and tremendous support,” she acknowledged.
“I would also like to thank my entire family for always encouraging and pushing me to be the best person I can possibly be. I would like to thank my friends for always cheering me on.”
She has previously teamed up with the president-elect on the golf course. The duo partnered in a Pro-Am team preceding the contentious LIV Golf tournament at Trump’s Doral course in Florida.
It seems that Kai will remain close to her family and her grandfather’s golf courses when she becomes part of the University of Miami’s golf team. The Biltmore Golf Club, where the University team practices and competes, is just about nine miles from Trump’s Doral course.
Like DeChambeau, Kai has entered the sports influencer scene by launching her own YouTube channel earlier this year. In addition to her primary golf content, the teenager also posted an election night insight video.
