The Philadelphia 76ers will likely make some trades before the trade deadline. If there’s one thing President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey is known for, it’s making a surprise splash here and there.
He did that immediately when the Sixers first hired him in 2020. He’s cleaned up the Sixers’ previous mess when he traded Al Horford and Josh Richardson. He then landed a pretty big fish when he traded for James Harden. So, who’s to say he doesn’t have something up his sleeve?
Some have urged the Sixers to do something desperate like getting rid of Paul George, but he’s starting to look more like his old self, and the Sixers are starting to look better.
That doesn’t mean they won’t make any trades. FanSided suggested one player that no one would think of as a potential trade candidate: Jared McCain.
To be fair, they labeled him a “knee-jerk” trade candidate, but if the Sixers wanted someone really good, McCain would be a very appealing asset after how he’s performed thus far.
It’s a fun thought but not a practical one.
Why the Sixers would not do this
McCain has been arguably the Sixers’ best story this season. The Sixers haven’t had a rookie this exciting in quite some time, and what makes him even more fun is that no one saw this coming from him.
What McCain has done so far has only been seen by future Hall-of-Famers during their rookie seasons. Getting this kind of production on a rookie contract makes him a diamond in the rough.
There’s also no telling if there’s a star out there who the Sixers could acquire who will vault them to contender more than McCain will.
If Philadelphia were to even think of trading McCain, it would be for a franchise player. Since McCain is cheap, that would be hard to complete from a financial standpoint alone.
