Legendary comic Adam Sandler paid tribute to one of his favourite movies in a hidden moment in one of his biggest comedy films.

The Hollywood star best known for works like Anger Management, Click, and Hustle, gave a nod to a film which influenced him from an early age with a brief moment in one of his comedy classics. Sandler has starred in a lengthy list of comedy flicks but found time to pay tribute to Judy Garland and her influence on his career during an unlikely moment from one of his more out-there movies.

Sandler also broke down his four current favourite films in an interview with Letterboxd, where he credited Caddyshack as one of his favourite films.

The star would go on to make his own golf-themed comedy with Happy Gilmore, and a sequel is set to release through Netflix later this year. Sandler could not contain himself to just four movies and cycled through a series of movies while promoting Netflix film Spaceman, alongside Paul Dano.

Sandler chose Caddyshack, It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World, Silent Movie, and Five Easy Pieces. He then changed his fourth pick to another Jack Nicholson starring film, The Last Detail. But he changed it again to Marathon Man, then Serpico.

Fans of Sandler praised his taste in film and say he was far too humble about Dano choosing one of the film’s he starred in as one of his favourites. Dano opted for the Sandler-starring Punch-Drunk Love, to which Sandler replied: “Oh my God. Thank you. That was Paul Thomas Anderson’s work, I just happened to be in it.”

One fan wrote: “I love Adam Sandler’s reaction to punch drunk love. He can be humble all he wants but he made that movie at least 40 percent better. Such an incredible movie.”

Another added: “Adam Sandler and Paul Dano just out here having impeccable taste.” It comes after Sandler previously confirmed he had paid tribute to another favourite of his, The Wizard of Oz, in the 2000 comedy film Little Nicky.

Speaking on the film in the book You Gotta See This, Sandler calls the film one of the all-time greats. He says: “I love The Wizard of Oz. This is not exactly the kind of thing a man wants to admit, but my mother makes me watch it again and again.

“Okay, thats not exactly true. I want to watch it, too. Maybe I even make my mother watch it with me. Now the secret is out. But dont you think Dorothy is pretty cute and that Scarecrow had a heart from the beginning if you ask me?”

Somewhere Over the Rainbow, the song which featured in the film and has been covered countless times by artists including Eva Cassidy and Cliff Richard, can be heard in the background of one scene in Little Nicky.
