New York Giants rookie Malik Nabers didn’t mince his words postgame when asked about the plane bearing a targeted message at owner John Mara.
After a long pause to think about how to diplomatically answer the question, the talented receiver replied: “I ain’t pay for the plane.”
In the buildup to Sunday’s game against the New Orleans Saints, a banner reading “MR MARA ENOUGH – PLS FIX THIS DUMPSTER FIRE” flew over MetLife Field. The 2-11 Giants naturally followed suit and lost 14-11 thanks to a blocked game-tying 35-yard field-goal attempt with under 15 seconds to go.

This isn’t the first time a banner has flown during a Giants game. Back in 1978, the words “15 Years of Lousy Football… We’ve Had Enough” sailed over a New York contest.
Since winning the Super Bowl following the 2011 campaign, Mara’s Giants have reached the playoffs just twice (in 2016 and 2022). His grandfather Tim founded the Giants in 1925. John joined the team in 1991 and became its President and CEO starting in 2005.
Nabers wasn’t the only Giants player asked about the banner. “People have money and time to do stuff like that. If that’s what they choose to do, that’s what they choose to do,” fellow receiver Darius Slayton said.
When much-maligned head coach Brian Daboll was asked if he saw the plane pregame, he shook his head. He eventually admitted he heard about it and said: “Look, we’ve won two games. [I’m] not happy either.”
Daboll’s team is down to their third starting quarterback of the season. Former first-round pick Daniel Jones was benched in favor of Tommy DeVito. Former Denver Broncos starter Drew Lock started this Sunday.
Nabers hauled in five passes for 79 yards – most of which came towards the end of the contest with the Giants chasing the Saints’ lead. The rookie is up to 75 receptions (tied for fifth in the league), 740 yards, and three touchdowns on the year. He missed two games with a concussion earlier in the campaign.
When asked why the Giants can’t seem to stop making silly mistakes, Nabers said: “I don’t know how you want me to answer that. That’s just football. That’s just the New York Giants this year.”
