On Sunday, his son Chase, a 3-star quarterback recruit from the class of 2025, announced his commitment to play at Michigan. The news prompted a sincere Instagram post from Kirk, who shared his excitement and encouragement for his son.”I’m so proud of you, Chase! Congratulations on this incredible opportunity,” he wrote. “I look forward to watching you continue to grow and develop at Michigan. Keep grinding!!”
Standing at around 6-foot-2 and weighing roughly 190 pounds, Chase operated a pro-style offense at Saint Xavier High School in Cincinnati, Ohio, which showcases versatility under center and out of the shotgun. His style aligns with Michigan’s offensive system, which pairs a power run game with 2022 MVP of the 2022 Big Ten Championship Game, Donovan Edwards, with efficient quarterback play.

Despite being a 3-star recruit and unranked in the nation’s top 300, Chase’s raw and untapped potential has caught the attention of top programs. In addition to the Wolverines, he reportedly fielded offers from Ohio State, Notre Dame, and North Carolina. Records from On3 indicate Chase made three unofficial visits to Notre Dame and one to Ohio State before ultimately deciding on Michigan. His pledge adds depth to Michigan’s already outstanding 2025 recruiting class ranked sixth overall in ESPN’s class rankings.
After the university posted the news, Chase responded in the comments with a simple “Go blue” to Wolverine’s nation. School legend Desmond Howard and notable NFL personality Pat McAfee also celebrated his recruitment in the comment section.
The Wolverines have landed some significant talent, including 5-star quarterback and the No. 1 overall recruit Bryce Underwood, highly touted offensive tackle Andrew Babalola ranked No. 27 overall, a four-star wide receiver and Andrew Marsh, and a four-star cornerback in Shamari Earis. The university is still awaiting responses from 15 more potential recruits, including the No. 7 ranked defensive end, Zahir Mathis.

Sunday’s announcement offered a rare glimpse of him in a personal light rather than providing a rigid analysis of the nation’s top players and schools.
Football fans noted how Chase’s decision sent him to the rival school of his father, who played quarterback at OSU from 1989 to 1993. Kirk finished his Buckeyes career with 2263 yards, five touchdowns, 11 interceptions, and a 21-14 loss in his lone Bowl Game appearance during the 1993 Citrus Bowl to Georgia.
