ESPN analyst Randy Moss is momentarily stepping down from his role on ‘Sunday NFL Countdown’ in order to address a “personal health challenge,” the company announced on Friday.

In an official press release announcing the news, ESPN wrote: “Pro Football Hall of Famer Randy Moss will step away from Sunday NFL Countdown for an extended time to focus on a personal health challenge. He briefly addressed the matter at the start of the show on Dec. 1.

“For nearly a decade, Randy has been an invaluable member of the team, consistently elevating Countdown with his insight and passion. He has ESPN’s full support, and we look forward to welcoming him back when he is ready.”

Over the weekend, Moss – who joined ‘Sunday NFL Countdown’ as an analyst back in 2016 – revealed that he’d be wearing blue-tinted glasses while on set as he continues to combat a health issue.

“I just want to share something with y’all, man,” he said at the start of the program. “I put a post up maybe a few minutes ago on Instagram, just telling people – you were talking about my eyes last week. And I just wanted to let the viewers know that me and my wife, me and my family, we are battling something internally. You know, I have some great doctors around me.

“I couldn’t miss the show. I wanted to be here with you guys. I feel great. But if y’all see me with these Michigan turnover glasses that I have on, it’s not being disrespectful because I’m on television, man. I’m battling something. I need all the prayer warriors. God bless you all. And thanks for the prayers.”

Taking to social media moments before going on air, Moss provided more insight into why he’d be wearing the shades – which ESPN’s Adam Schefter dubbed the “Michigan turnover glasses” following the Wolverines’ upset win over Ohio State. “I just want to give y’all a little message. I’m on my grown man right now,” the former NFL wide receiver said in a clip posted to Instagram.

“I’m sitting here on Sunday NFL countdown, and you know, throughout the week of the holidays, man, your boy has been battling something internal. I just ask for all the prayer warriors to put their blessing hands on me and my family through these hard times.

“People were talking about my eyes last week,” he continued. “So if you see these on. You know, Sunday NFL Countdown, Adam Schefter calls them ‘The Michigan turnover glasses’ that they sent from Ohio last night. So I just let it go with these.”

Moments later, Moss encouraged his male audience to look after their health and attend annual checkups with doctors. “Your boy gonna get through it. I got a great team of doctors and got a great family around me man,” he said.

“All you men man. Y’all do your checkups. Get your blood work done. We’ll work through it, alright.”
