LSU women’s basketball star Flau’jae Johnson heaped praise on Colorado’s Travis Hunter after he added several more highlight-reel plays to his Heisman campaign.
Last Saturday, the two-way football phenom turned in yet another strong performance in No. 16 Colorado’s 49-24 win over Utah. With less than 30 seconds remaining in the first quarter of the contest, Utes quarterback Isaac Wilson attempted to connect with wide receiver Munir McClain, but the sailing pass was deflected in the air and into the waiting arms of Hunter.
Moments after returning the interception back 21 yards, Hunter struck the Heisman pose before hurling the ball into the air. Although he was issued an unsportsmanlike conduct flag for the celebration, those in attendance promptly showered him with cheers following the display.

Speaking to reporters following last Saturday’s victory, Colorado head coach Deion Sanders insisted that Hunter’s film speaks for itself. “I ain’t gonna sit up here and give no message to Heisman voters who is undecided,” he said. “If they can’t see, they can’t see. It is what it is. I mean, Travis is who he is. It’s supposed to go to the best college football player. I think that’s been a wrap since, what? Week 2?
“So, we ain’t petitioning for nobody. We ain’t doing that. We got a wonderful display of cameras here, and I think we on national television every week. If they can’t see it, something is a problem. Don’t allow their hatred for me to interfere with our kids’ success. They got to stop that. Y’all got to stop. Some of y’all like that. Y’all got to stop that, man. Get the kids what they deserve, man.”
Deion’s son, Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders, expressed a similar sentiment, saying of Hunter: “He’s the best player in the country, hands down no doubt. It’s not a lot of guys who can do what he do on offense and defense.
“So, it’s really tough to compare him to anybody else, ‘cuz I feel like if he was at a different program – they don’t like us so much, they hate on us too. So it’s real hard and it makes me sad that they don’t give a guy like him his credit because that’s generational. It ain’t going to happen again for a long time.”
