Pittsburgh Steelers receiver George Pickens needed to be dragged away from fighting with Cleveland Browns cornerback Greg Newsome following the Steelers’ shocking loss on Thursday Night Football.
In windy conditions with the snow thundering down, the Browns secured a 24-19 win over the Steelers. Jameis Winston threw for 219 yards and scored a rushing touchdown while Nick Chubb rumbled for 58 yards and two scores to help the floundering Browns move to 3-8 on the season.
Despite entering the AFC North showdown atop the division, Pittsburgh struggled offensively amid the wintery conditions. Pickens finished with just four receptions for 48 yards and his frustration boiled over during the final play.

After Chubb scored what would be the game-winning touchdown, the Steelers drove to midfield to give Russell Wilson the chance to launch a Hail Mary. The veteran did that, with the ball knocked down in the end zone – but Pickens, the Steelers’ best deep threat target, was nowhere to be seen.
Pickens was not making a play on the ball because he was caught up in a clash with Newsome. While the ball was sailing into the end zone, the rivals appeared to drag one another off the field before Pickens appeared to swing at Newsome.
The two players continued to tussle even after the Browns victory was confirmed, with Pickens seemingly held back by Cleveland fans in the stands. After the two players were separated, the broadcast cameras caught a fuming Pickens muttering and walking off the field.
It wasn’t the only time Pickens clashed with a Browns player on Thursday night. Trailing 18-6, the receiver’s mouthpiece was snatched by Browns safety Grant Delpit, who then threw it onto the snowy ground before he received an penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Pickens has been questioned over his maturity in the past. He clashed with Dallas Cowboys defensive back Joudan Lewis, and was accused of failing to block for Jaylen Warren along with giving up on plays when Justin Fields was serving as the starting quarterback.
The fight with Newsome is a concern, especially after former Steelers defensive lineman Chris Hoke believed the receiver was turning into a professional with the help of Wilson. He told KDKA’s Steelers Extra Point postgame show: “You’re seeing George Pickens mature before our eyes.
“And I think Russell Wilson is having a tremendous impact on George Pickens. Just the way he addresses the media. Just the way he plays in the game. It’s just fun to watch him turn into a professional.”
It seems Hoke may have spoken slightly too soon. Pickens’ 8-3 Steelers are next in action against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, Dec. 1.
