Tom Brady is not the only former New England Patriots star to have his Las Vegas Raiders ownership approved.

Brady’s bid to acquire a minority stake in the Raiders was finally signed off by NFL owners on Tuesday, receiving unanimous approval at a meeting in Atlanta. He has been joined in the ownership group by former Patriots and Raiders defensive end Richard Seymour, who described the investment as “the mission of a lifetime”.

Seymour, a first-round pick by the Patriots in 2001, spent eight seasons in Foxborough and won three Super Bowl rings, earning three First-team All-Pro selections along the way. He moved to the Raiders in 2009 and spent four years in Oakland before calling time on a stellar career.

While Brady’s stake has been disclosed as five per cent, it is unclear how much of the 45-year-old Raiders Seymour has acquired. The former Patriots’ bid to buy into the team, acquiring shares from majority owner Mark Davis, had been bound together, but Brady’s role as a broadcaster with FOX complicated matters and the bids were separated before being put to the owners of the other 31 teams for approval.

“I’m deeply grateful — humbled and honored — to become a NFL owner,” Seymour posted on X after his ownership was confirmed. “This is the mission of a lifetime, and I accept it with both purpose and pride. With great opportunity comes great responsibility. And I pledge to be a worthy steward of our game — and all it makes possible.”

The Raiders are the latest piece of seven-time Super Bowl champion Brady’s sports investment portfolio. He also owns stakes in WNBA franchise the Las Vegas Aces and English soccer club Birmingham City, plus investments in Major League Pickleball and an electric boat racing team.

“I’m incredibly humbled and excited to have been unanimously approved as an owner of the Las Vegas Raiders,” Brady said in a statement on Tuesday. “Throughout my NFL career, I’ve learned that at its core, football is a game of teamwork, resilience, and a relentless pursuit of excellence. The Raiders franchise, and the city of Las Vegas embody these same values, and I’m honored to become part of that story.

“Football has been part of my entire life growing up in the Bay Area and in so many ways, my football life and journey has come full circle. I love the sport, I love my teammates, coaches, and the fans in every organization I’ve been part of. Sports brings us together in a way nothing else can. I grew up on the field, and it’s a blessing to know I’ll be involved in the greatest league in the world for the rest of my life.

“I’d like to thank Mark Davis for welcoming me into his family, and the tireless work he’s done to help build on the organization that so many fans know and love today. Also thank you to Commissioner Goodell for his support as well as all the NFL owners that supported my dream I’m forever grateful.

“I’m eager to contribute to the organization in any way I can, honoring the Raiders’ rich tradition while finding every possible opportunity to improve our offering to fans… and most importantly, WIN football games.”
