Tina Knowles, mother of superstars Beyoncé and Solange, shared some heartfelt advice for moms at Glamour’s Women of the Year Awards on Oct. 8. Honored alongside other mothers raising the stars of this generation, the event took place at The Times Square EDITION in New York City.
Speaking to PEOPLE on the red carpet, Knowles offered words of encouragement to moms facing challenging times, particularly during their children’s teenage years. She emphasized that while those years can be the most difficult, they eventually get better. “You get what you put in,” she said. “The more love, care, and support you give them, the more you get out of it.”
During her heartfelt speech at Glamour’s Women of the Year Awards, Tina Knowles, 70, reflected on her most cherished role—being a mother. With Beyoncé in the audience showing her support, Knowles spoke about how motherhood has been the greatest blessing in her life.
“I’ve been so blessed in my life to do many things. I’ve had many careers, but I’ve always said that the best job that I’ve ever had is being a mother,” Knowles shared. She expressed gratitude not only for her biological daughters, Beyoncé and Solange, but also for two other young women she helped raise, calling them “a gift from God.”
Knowles opened up about her rebellious past as a teen and young adult but said becoming a mother was the turning point. “I didn’t always follow the rules, but the day that I became a mother, I decided that this was one thing that I wouldn’t screw up,” she said emotionally.
As her words hit home, the camera caught Beyoncé smiling proudly, wiping away tears as she shared this touching moment with her mother.
