Rapper and music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs was indicted by a grand jury on charges of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking, as revealed in a federal document unsealed on Tuesday. These charges stem from a long history of allegations spanning 16 years, alongside decades of rumors suggesting Combs used his influence to physically and sexually abuse women.
Combs was arrested on Monday evening and is currently being held without bail, marking a shocking turn in the life of a man who once dominated the entertainment and celebrity scenes.
The indictment accuses Combs of leveraging his lifestyle and media and music companies to orchestrate a widespread criminal enterprise. His security team, personal assistants, and staff allegedly participated in these activities, aiding Combs in abusing, threatening, and coercing women to “fulfill his sexual desires, protect his reputation, and conceal his conduct.”
Among the crimes Combs and his associates are accused of committing are sex trafficking, narcotics distribution, arson, and kidnapping. Many of these alleged offenses reportedly occurred at illegal sex parties that Combs called “freak offs.”
During these gatherings, he is said to have thrown objects at victims and dragged them by their hair. His associates allegedly booked hotel suites, recruited male sex workers, and distributed narcotics—including cocaine, methamphetamine, and oxycodone—to coerce attendees into sexual acts.
Furthermore, Combs’s staff is accused of monitoring and arranging travel for victims and scheduling the delivery of IV fluids to assist victims in recovering from severe drug use and physical exertion at his behest. These parties were reportedly recorded, with Combs using the footage to intimidate victims into silence, according to the indictment.
U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Damian Williams, stated, “This office is determined to investigate and prosecute anyone who engages in sex trafficking, no matter how powerful or wealthy or famous you may be. A year ago, Sean Combs stood in Times Square and was handed a key to New York City. Today, he’s been indicted and will face justice.”
