Rob Gronkowski has addressed Travis Kelce’s poor start to the NFL season after his relationship with Taylor Swift was blamed.
The New England Patriots icon has come to the defense of Kelce after the Kansas City Chiefs tight end’s form has been put under the microscope during the opening three weeks of the new season. While the defending back-to-back Super Bowl champions hold a perfect 3-0 record, Kelce’s performance have been singled out. Three games into the season, Kelce has only made eight catches for 69 yards and no touchdowns.
Appearing on Kay Adams ‘Up & Adams’ show this week, Gronkowski spoke about Kelce’s struggles early on in the season. However, the former Patriots tight end defended his positional companion, insisting the team’s record is the only one that matters, which so far, is perfect.

“It doesn’t matter that he’s not making plays right now,” Gronkowski said. “The Chiefs are 3-0 right now, that’s all it matters in the wins and loss column, they’re undefeated. That’s the only thing that matters in the game of football, not stats.”
Gronkowski then joked about how Kelce has the same amount of receiving yards in three games as his brother Dan amassed in his entire NFL career. “And if you ask me, Travis Kelce, he has the same amount of yards this year as my brother, Dan, who played three years in the NFL over his whole career. Dan G. has 69 career yards. Travis Kelce has 69 yards this year. So they’re both legends right now,” Gronkowski added.
While there could be many reasons for Kelce’s slow start to the campaign, football analyst Todd McShay blamed his poor form on his new lavish lifestyle since dating pop star Swift. McShay appeared on ‘The Ryen Russillo’ podcast where he discussed that off-field changes could be the catalyst for Kelce’s underwhelming start.

“Are we not allowed to say that he’s out of shape?” McShay asked on the show. “That he’s been partying all offseason? That he’s been jet-setting around with the most famous person probably in the entire world? That he’s drinking [and] going to the U.S. Open and he’s got cocktails?”
Russillo argued that there’s a fine line between enjoying the off-season and neglecting football responsibilities. McShay then referenced Kelce’s physique change between the pre-seasons of 2022 and 2024, suggesting he’s “barely the same person.”
The Chiefs beat the Atlanta Falcons 22-17 in week three as Kelce’s performance gave some hope that he could be re-finding his form. The 34-year-old registered a season-high four receives and 30 yards, with only Rashee Rice claiming more in the Chiefs’ offense. Kansas City face the Los Angeles Chargers in week four.
